Many exciting things are happening in the gardens of life this Mother’s Day weekend. For one thing, the Board Members of Blackshear Bridge are delighted to show you the Schoolyard planning that our member Diana Su led this Spring 2014.
Here’s a video of Diana’s design process for Blackshear Elementary School’s emerging sustainable Schoolyard design. I think you’ll enjoy this story. Especially if you enjoy bluegrass, as much as I do.
We want to welcome you to two exciting events coming up this weekend in Central East Austin… Ready for a Picnic?
1. This Saturday, May 10 from 10-3, Blackshear Bridge is rolling out the checkered tablecloth at Kealing Middle School’s School Garden Picnic.
Find us there AND be square — a quilt square, that is. You can:
Participate in the community Quilting bee,
Add your family Recipe to the community Cookbook,
Bring a dish to share in the Potluck starting at Noon Thirty,
Move your booty to some live garden Music
And Edify your brain and belly with garden and cooking demos and…
The Heritage District Mapping Project
The picnic’s happening in the expanded school gardens, on the west end of the campus toward the teacher parking lot and Carver Center. 10-3, Outdoors Saturday! Want to know more? Call Nine — 512-391-1591.

There are plenty of fun events during District Days at Downs Field this weekend. Friday night’s dance performance is a fundraiser. Tickets for Saturdays and Sunday’s are free. Just reserve them online because Forklift is sure to sell out once again. Lisa Byrd with the African American Cultural Heritage District particularly encourages Huston Tillotson University and central east Austin community members to get your free tickets today.
I feel we are sure to see you at one of these fun, community-building events this weekend in beautiful, central east Austin.
Until then, I wish you…rain. If not rain, then food, joy and love in your heart for family and friends.
